Crankcases For Motors And Engines
A crankcase is an integral part of an internal combustion engine that houses the crankshaft and other important components. It is a large, usually cast aluminum or iron housing that is bolted to the engine block and contains the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and other components. The crankcase is designed to keep the lubricating oil inside and prevent it from leaking out, while also providing a rigid structure to support the engine's moving parts. The crankcase is typically divided into two main sections: the upper and lower halves. The upper half contains the cylinder block and head, while the lower half houses the crankshaft and connecting rods. The two halves are bolted together with a gasket in between to prevent oil leaks. The crankcase also contains various passageways and channels that allow oil to flow to the engine's moving parts. The oil is typically pumped from the oil pan at the bottom of the engine and circulated through the crankcase by an oil pump. The oil helps to lubricate the engine's moving parts and reduce friction and wear. In addition to its primary function of housing the engine's moving parts, the crankcase also serves as a mounting point for various other components, such as the starter motor, alternator, and various sensors and switches. Overall, the crankcase is a critical component of any internal combustion engine, and its design and construction are crucial to the engine's performance and longevity.
