Cradle Of Forest Postcard

Cradle of Forest Postcard is an innovative sustainable design solution that transforms fallen leaves into biodegradable postcards embedded with plant seeds, representing a remarkable fusion of communication and environmental conservation. This eco-conscious creation, designed by Reiko Kitora and Atsuhito Kitora, ingeniously repurposes natural materials by converting fallen leaves into a fine powder that is mixed with paste to create durable, biodegradable postcards measuring 150mm in height, 100mm in width, and 3mm in depth. The design incorporates a sophisticated reinforcement system utilizing coniferous tree fibers woven into nets, which not only provides structural integrity but also contains plant nutrients that dissolve upon watering. The postcards feature strategically placed seeds beneath the stamp area, enabling recipients to participate in forest regeneration by simply watering the card, whereupon it transforms into growing seedlings. This Silver A' Design Award-winning creation, recognized in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, exemplifies a thoughtful approach to addressing environmental concerns through daily objects, particularly resonating with initiatives aligned with global climate action. The design's significance lies in its ability to transform a conventional communication medium into a vehicle for environmental stewardship, creating a tangible connection between human interaction and nature conservation while offering a practical solution for reducing waste and promoting reforestation.
