Cover Residence is an innovative architectural project located in Tokyo's high-density suburban district, exemplifying contemporary Japanese residential design through its thoughtful integration of privacy, natural light, and spatial efficiency. Designed by Satoshi Kurosaki and completed in August 2018, this private residence showcases a sophisticated approach to urban living within its 101.56 square meters of total floor area. The structure's distinctive exterior features metallic grey Galvalume material that serves both as a structural skin and privacy shield, particularly for the first floor's street-facing facade. The architectural composition is notable for its courtyard-like layout that creates a serene atmosphere despite its urban context, with a carefully orchestrated entrance that provides an uninterrupted view from the front through to the property's rear, passing between the staircase and bathroom. The second floor's design demonstrates exceptional spatial planning, incorporating a loft and substantial void space that maximizes the impact of the high ceilings, while a strategic opening in the roof facilitates abundant natural light penetration, effectively expanding the perceived dimensions of the compact interior. This timber-structured residence, situated on a 149.01-square-meter site, represents a harmonious balance between privacy and openness in contemporary urban architecture, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category for its innovative approach to residential design, structural integrity, and thoughtful consideration of urban living requirements.
