Costa Rican Design
As a design historian with an in-depth knowledge of art history, design theory, and cultural studies of Costa Rica, I will provide an overview of the cultural and technological influences that have shaped the development of design in Costa Rica. Historically, Costa Rica has been characterized by colonial influences, particularly in its architecture, art and design. During the late 19th and 20th centuries, Costa Rica saw a rise in the creation of local art and design. This was largely due to the emergence of modernism, which was a reaction to the academic art that had been prevalent in the region. In the late 20th century, technological advancements and new materials began to influence the development of Costa Rican design. Alongside this, a greater emphasis was placed on sustainability and social responsibility in design, which has become an important part of Costa Rican design today.
