Computer Game Discs
Computer game discs are physical media used to distribute video games for personal computers. These discs are typically made of polycarbonate plastic and are approximately 12 centimeters in diameter. They are designed to be read by an optical disc drive, which uses a laser to read the data stored on the disc's surface. Computer game discs have been a popular method of distributing video games since the 1990s. They offer several advantages over other distribution methods, such as digital downloads. For example, they do not require an internet connection to install or play the game, and they can be easily shared or traded between friends. Additionally, many gamers enjoy the tangible experience of owning a physical copy of their favorite games. There are several types of computer game discs, including CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, and Blu-ray discs. CD-ROMs were the most common type of game disc in the 1990s and early 2000s, but have since been largely replaced by DVD-ROMs and Blu-ray discs, which offer higher storage capacities. Some games also come on multiple discs, particularly those with large amounts of data such as open-world games or games with extensive cutscenes. Despite their advantages, computer game discs are not without their drawbacks. They can be easily scratched or damaged, which can render them unreadable. Additionally, they can take up a significant amount of physical space, particularly for gamers with large collections. As such, many gamers have begun to switch to digital downloads as their primary method of acquiring games.
