Composition Cemetery
Composition Cemetery is an innovative architectural project designed by Andrea Bastoni and Edoardo Bastoni, representing a thoughtful approach to contemporary burial space design that harmoniously integrates with its natural surroundings near a historical center. The design, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, consists of two spectacular three-level concrete buildings featuring 252 cemetery plots adorned with red brick facades. Each structure measures 9.50 meters in width, 17.00 meters in depth, and 8.40 meters in height, embodying a perfect balance between functionality and contemplative aesthetics. The design philosophy centers on creating a replicable model that respects Italian local identities while incorporating traditional materials in a modern context. The buildings are distinguished by their covered balconies and strategically designed staircases that serve not only as functional elements but also as urban spaces promoting circulation, communication, and socialization. This innovative approach transforms the traditional concept of a cemetery into a more engaging and accessible space while maintaining its solemn purpose. The project's emphasis on enclosure and portal themes creates a distinct transition from public to intimate spaces, effectively establishing a sense of reverence and protection. The use of simple, traditional materials such as concrete and red bricks reinforces the contemplative nature of the space while ensuring durability and architectural integrity. The design's success lies in its ability to create a replicable model that can be adapted to various locations while maintaining its core principles of respect, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity.
