Commercial Area, SJD Airport Commercial Area & Vip Waiting Room
Commercial Area, SJD Airport Commercial Area & Vip Waiting Room is an innovative architectural project that exemplifies contemporary airport terminal design, incorporating sustainable principles and advanced technological solutions. This Silver A' Design Award-winning commercial space encompasses 7,500 square meters and represents a significant advancement in aeroportuary design, featuring a monumental glass facade that maximizes natural sunlight utilization, thereby substantially reducing energy consumption. The design employs an aerodynamic aesthetic with curved lines that reflect vanguardism while maintaining morphological integration with aeronautical design principles. The space is distinguished by its organic and avant-garde approach, particularly evident in the VIP Lounge's unique Voronoi-type porous skin facade, which was created using experimental parametric digital techniques and fabricated through advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. The food court area introduces an innovative picnic concept, featuring artificial grass flooring and natural vegetation to create an outdoor atmosphere within the terminal. The project's material selection demonstrates a careful balance between aesthetics and durability, primarily utilizing Alucobond, a composite material consisting of aluminum cover sheets with a polyethylene core, chosen for its versatility and ability to conform to the design's complex curves. This groundbreaking project has been recognized for its contribution to sustainable airport design, its integration of commercial spaces within the terminal environment, and its creation of a distinctive passenger experience that combines functionality with innovative design solutions.
