Collecting Wood Retail
Collecting Wood Retail is an innovative interior retail space design project completed in 2018, exemplifying a sophisticated approach to commercial architecture that seamlessly integrates natural materials with contemporary spatial design principles. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, features a distinctive two-stage fluttering arc line design inspired by dynamic movement, creating independent building bodies within the interior space. The design's conceptual framework draws inspiration from everyday moments, particularly the motion of paper tape floating in the wind, resulting in overlapping household shapes that define distinct functional zones. The space demonstrates exceptional technical achievement in its curved wood exhibition hall construction, overcoming significant challenges in material manipulation and structural integration. With a carefully considered ceiling height variation—ranging from 5.5 meters in the main hall to 2.4 meters in the dining area—the design creates a dynamic spatial experience that guides visitors through a narrative journey of product exploration and culinary appreciation. The project's material selection emphasizes environmental consciousness through the extensive use of natural logs and bark, reflecting a commitment to sustainable design practices. This retail environment serves multiple functions, incorporating areas for product education, display, and dining experiences, all unified by two curved guide lines that orchestrate visitor flow and experience. The design, created by Ling Zhou, represents a significant achievement in retail architecture, demonstrating how thoughtful spatial planning and material selection can enhance the commercial environment while maintaining environmental responsibility.
