Cocoon Nail Salon Nail Salon

Cocoon Nail Salon Nail Salon is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the conventional nail salon experience through a sophisticated architectural concept inspired by silkworm cocoons. Completed in 2018 in Beijing, this 64.4-square-meter space represents a harmonious fusion of functionality and artistic expression, where private treatment areas are conceptualized as cocoon-like structures within an open public space. The design, created by architects Qingfan Zhang and Bo Zhang, employs a distinctive approach to spatial organization by incorporating independent compartments wrapped in high-performance metallic mesh fabric with apertures smaller than PM 2.5, creating an elegant filtering effect for light and privacy. The project's materiality showcases an innovative combination of glass tiles, metal mesh, and grille elements, carefully selected to meet stringent fire safety requirements while maintaining a luxurious aesthetic. The design philosophy centers on the metamorphosis symbolism of silkworm cocoons, representing transformation and renewal, while addressing practical challenges through creative material applications and construction techniques. Each private space is thoughtfully crafted to provide clients with a sense of intimacy and protection while maintaining a connection to the larger environment. The project's execution involved a sophisticated combination of stitching and adhesive bonding techniques to achieve the desired cocoon-like texture and appearance. This groundbreaking design approach earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing retail interior design through its innovative spatial solutions and material applications. The project successfully challenges the conventional approach to commercial space design by creating an environment that balances aesthetic sophistication with functional efficiency, transforming a standard underground shopping mall space into an artistic sanctuary for nail care services.
