Close Horizon House Extension
Close Horizon House Extension is an architecturally significant residential expansion project located in Lo Barnechea, Santiago, Chile, that exemplifies the seamless integration of contemporary design with existing architecture and natural surroundings. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project, completed in December 2020, encompasses 390 square meters of exterior space and 160 square meters of interior area, masterfully designed by architect Karla Andrea Aliaga Mac Dermitt. The extension's distinctive features include large continuous concrete floors with varied coatings and innovative ceiling heights that create unique spatial experiences throughout different zones. The design philosophy emphasizes the harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor spaces through expansive windows and thoughtful spatial planning, incorporating a barbecue area, living room, fireplace, swimming pool, and jacuzzi. The project's success lies in its careful consideration of environmental factors, demonstrated through comprehensive climate analysis and sophisticated technological integration for automated utilities. The extension's design prioritizes sustainability and functionality while maintaining aesthetic cohesion with the existing structure, utilizing natural materials and colors that reflect the surrounding Chilean hillside landscape. Advanced technological solutions were implemented for remote control of heating, lighting, audio, and security systems, while the construction process involved detailed digital modeling using SketchUp, Rhino, and AutoCAD software, with specialized lighting analysis conducted through the Lamp program. The project's distinctive achievement in merging contemporary architectural elements with natural surroundings earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, particularly for its innovative approach to spatial design and environmental integration.
