Cloche Sofa Modular Sofa

Cloche Sofa Modular Sofa

Cloche Sofa Modular sofa is an innovative piece of urban furniture design that transforms industrial infrastructure into functional art, created by artist Carlo Sampietro. This groundbreaking design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, represents a sophisticated metamorphosis of urban materials into contemporary furniture. The piece ingeniously repurposes sewage pipes from New York City's infrastructure, demonstrating an exemplary case of sustainable design through creative material reclamation. The sofa's distinctive cylindrical form, measuring 4267mm in length with a 914mm diameter, incorporates a sophisticated mechanical system that enables the rotation and locking of the backrest, enhancing its functionality while maintaining its sculptural aesthetic. The design features LED side panels and conic footing that elegantly conceals its utilitarian origins, creating a harmonious blend of form and function. This versatile piece serves multiple purposes, functioning simultaneously as a modular sofa, an ambient lighting fixture, and a sculptural art installation, challenging conventional furniture design paradigms. The production process involves precise plasma cutting and welding techniques, with ongoing experimentation in various materials including wood, stainless steel, concrete, and marble, demonstrating the design's adaptability and evolution. The Cloche Sofa represents a significant contribution to contemporary design discourse, particularly in its approach to urban material reuse and the intersection of functional furniture with artistic expression, while its modular nature allows for flexible configuration in various spatial contexts.
