Civil Desktop

Civil Desktop is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the industrial-modern aesthetic, drawing inspiration from 1950s New York loft architecture and industrial shed construction. Created by Brazilian designers Luigi Toledo and Carlos Toledo in 2017-2018, this sophisticated table harmoniously combines copper tubing, brass fittings, and crystal glass to create a functional yet aesthetically striking piece. The design features a linear geometric form with synchronized movement achieved through 45-degree connections, enhancing structural rigidity while maintaining visual elegance. The table's construction involves meticulous attention to detail, incorporating polypropylene cylinder reinforcements within the tubes for stability, automotive-grade polishing of copper and brass components, and protective automotive varnish for durability. The piece includes a matte black lacquered MDF drawer with a Sliding Touch system, while the 12mm glass top with chamfered edges rests on silicone shock absorbers, measuring 1.80 x 0.60 x 0.75 meters. This sophisticated fusion of industrial materials with refined finishing techniques earned the design an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019, recognizing its innovative approach to material use and aesthetic appeal. The piece successfully transforms utilitarian construction materials into elegant design elements, creating a versatile furniture solution suitable for both commercial and residential environments.
