Cine Times Cinema is a pioneering interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of cinematic heritage with contemporary minimalist aesthetics. Located in Hong Kong and completed in 2013, this 1900-square-meter cinema complex represents a thoughtful tribute to the evolution of filmmaking, particularly drawing inspiration from 19th-century roll films. The design, conceived by Ajax Law and Virginia Lung, employs a striking black and white color scheme that serves as a sophisticated canvas for the space's architectural narrative. The interior features distinctive elements including specially designed LED spotlights of varying lengths (1-6 meters) suspended from the ceiling, creating dynamic interplays of light and shadow throughout the space. The design's conceptual foundation draws parallel between modern technology's trend toward simplified interfaces and the cinema's minimalist aesthetic approach. Notable design elements include geometric patterns on the floor that contrast with rectangular wall motifs, LCD screens displaying current film trailers in the entrance area, and a uniquely curved ticketing counter that harmonizes with the roll film-inspired wall designs. The auditorium space is particularly noteworthy for its intersecting spotlights that generate a multidimensional atmosphere, enhancing the moviegoing experience. This innovative design earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial design, technological integration, and cultural significance. The project successfully demonstrates how contemporary interior design can preserve and celebrate cinema's historical legacy while creating a modern, user-centric entertainment space.
