Chu Cellar Liquor is an innovative packaging design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese Chu culture with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities, created by designers Yong Wu and Fuyu Yang. The design draws profound inspiration from the historical chime bells of the Chu state, incorporating this cultural element into a sophisticated ceramic bottle design that features ergonomic concave and convex lines to enhance grip and user experience. Measuring 170mm in length, 130mm in depth, and 320mm in height, this cultural artifact seamlessly integrates functionality with artistic expression through its thoughtfully crafted ceramic construction and open-mold cast detailing. The design's distinctive feature lies in its multifunctional wooden packaging, which ingeniously transforms into an exhibition stand, elevating the bottle into a decorative art piece after consumption. This innovative approach to sustainability and reusability demonstrates a forward-thinking solution to packaging waste while celebrating the rich historical heritage of Hubei, China. The design process, which commenced in Shenzhen in April 2019 and culminated in market release in February 2020, involved extensive historical research and cultural immersion to authentically represent the brand's origins. The project's excellence in packaging design was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design Category in 2020, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to cultural preservation through design innovation.
