Chirming Poster

Chirming Poster

Chirming Poster is an innovative visual communication design that transforms bird sounds into intricate mandala-inspired graphic compositions, created by designer Sook Ko. This groundbreaking work represents a unique intersection of auditory and visual elements, translating the natural songs of sixteen Korean bird species into sophisticated geometric patterns. The design methodology incorporates advanced sound visualization techniques, including the use of cymascope principles, which transform audio frequencies into snowflake-like patterns. Each poster in the series features a central mandala design that represents the bird's primary song frequency, with radiating branches symbolizing the frequency of bird calls and scale ranges captured through professional audio analysis tools. The artistic execution demonstrates exceptional technical precision, being realized through UV planographic printing on 2mm white acrylic sheets at A1 size (594mm x 841mm), departing from conventional paper-based poster production. This innovative approach to information design seamlessly blends scientific data visualization with aesthetic meditation principles, creating a harmonious bridge between natural acoustics and visual art. The project, which earned the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, exemplifies how complex acoustic information can be transformed into meaningful visual narratives that promote relaxation and mindfulness. The design's significance lies in its ability to create a multisensory experience that connects viewers with nature through abstract representation, while maintaining scientific accuracy in its visualization of acoustic properties.
