Chen Home Residential
Chen Home Residential is an award-winning architectural renovation project that transformed a 50-year-old brick dormitory into a sophisticated modern dwelling, exemplifying innovative approaches to urban regeneration and sustainable living. The two-story, 225-square-meter residence, designed by Chun Nan Chen, masterfully integrates contemporary design elements with traditional materials, featuring a distinctive 12-meter-long facade composed of square cement hollow bricks, squeezed stones, and dark gray aluminum grilles. The project, completed in December 2022 in Taipei, demonstrates exceptional attention to environmental consciousness through its thoughtful material selection, including locally-sourced aluminum plates, indigenous stone, and sustainably harvested timber. The interior design philosophy emphasizes simplicity and functionality, with the first floor dedicated to public spaces that facilitate entertainment and family gatherings, while incorporating natural elements and earth-toned materials throughout. A notable technological innovation includes the implementation of a heat pump water heater system, addressing the challenges of limited municipal utility access in its mountainous location. The design's response to post-pandemic living requirements is particularly noteworthy, featuring multi-functional spaces that accommodate remote work and learning environments. The project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, stands as a testament to successful urban renewal, combining aesthetic sophistication with practical functionality while maintaining harmony with its surrounding environment.
