Chasing Light Residence

Chasing Light Residence

Chasing Light Residence is an award-winning architectural renovation project that masterfully transforms a 40-year-old house in Taiwan into a luminous contemporary dwelling through innovative design interventions focused on natural light manipulation. The 145-square-meter residence, spanning three floors, addresses the challenges of a long, narrow layout through sophisticated spatial planning and material selection that maximizes daylight penetration and circulation. The design philosophy centers on the interplay between light and architecture, employing transparent and perforated materials such as glass panels and corrugated plates to create a dynamic relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The renovation strategically incorporates a built-in garage on the first floor, utilizing retracted space to allow natural light to penetrate previously dark areas, while the second floor features a thoughtfully designed private area positioned to capitalize on available daylight. The third floor employs an innovative corrugated plate ceiling system that simultaneously manages temperature control and light distribution. The material palette includes stone plastic composites flooring, light-colored tiles, baking paint, iron plates, and neoclassical trims, all selected to amplify the luminosity of the space. The project, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in sustainable design practices through its emphasis on natural lighting and ventilation, reducing reliance on artificial illumination while creating a harmonious living environment that responds sensitively to the client's needs and lifestyle patterns.
