Character Topology

Character Topology is the way polygons are arranged on a 3D character model, and in game art, a smart layout helps the character move smoothly and look good from all angles. Good character topology in games uses loops around eyes, mouth, and joints so the face can show emotions and the body can bend without strange lines or shapes. For game art, keeping the number of polygons low is important so the game runs well, but the shape must still look natural when animated. Designers often use extra polygons in places that move a lot, like elbows or knees, to keep the skin from looking stretched or pinched during movement. Clean topology makes it easier to add details like clothing or armor later, and helps when creating different versions of the same character, such as damaged or upgraded forms.
