Cerrada Reforma 108 Single Family Home is an innovative residential architectural project located in San Angel, Mexico City, that exemplifies a masterful exploration of positive and negative space through its distinctive design approach. The structure occupies precisely half of a rectangular 10x20 meter plot, utilizing a longitudinal block of 5x20 meters for the main dwelling, while the remaining space serves as an intentionally designed void that creates a compelling spatial dialogue. The project's most notable feature is its transparent façade that spans the entire length of one side, establishing a seamless visual connection between the built structure and the open space, while private areas such as bathrooms and kitchen remain discreetly enclosed. The construction employs site-made adobe blocks, a traditional Mexican building material composed of sand, clay, water, and organic materials, which not only reduced construction costs but also provides excellent thermal regulation throughout the seasons. The design's sophisticated interplay between solid and void elements is further enhanced by a full-height solid wall that ensures privacy from neighboring properties while maintaining the conceptual integrity of the space division. Interior finishes include a thoughtful selection of materials such as marble, wash concrete, quarry stone, and wood, complemented by apparent concrete, vinyl paint, and tile treatments on the walls.
