CC - Cylinderchair Chair is an innovative seating system that revolutionizes traditional furniture design through its distinctive modular approach and sculptural aesthetic. Designed by Italian architects Martina Zappettini and Valerio Tunesi, this versatile furniture piece features a series of cylindrical padding elements integrated into a metal structure, drawing inspiration from the visual arrangement of colored chalks. The design, which earned an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019, showcases a remarkable blend of functionality and artistic expression. The chair's defining characteristic lies in its 'open' shape configuration, where the quantity and length of cylindrical elements determine its final form, allowing it to transform from a simple chair to an armchair or easy chair. Measuring 730mm in length, 730mm in width, and 440mm in height, the chair employs a satin-finished iron structure complemented by density rubber cushions of 40 grade, wrapped in cotton fabric and secured with velcro attachments. The design's innovative approach to modularity enables unprecedented customization possibilities, both at the production level and in domestic settings, where individual elements can be removed or rearranged. This adaptability extends to the choice of fabrics, which can range from natural to synthetic materials, allowing the chair to harmonize with various environmental contexts, whether interior or exterior spaces. The project, which was developed between October 2017 and March 2018 in Genoa, represents a significant reinterpretation of rationalist seating design, emphasizing plasticity and sculptural qualities while maintaining functional versatility.
