Cats In A Box Communication Design
Cats in a Box Communication Design is an innovative social awareness and marketing campaign that addresses the critical issue of cat abandonment during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Created by designer Daniel da Hora, this comprehensive communication design project combines vibrant digital illustrations, strategic messaging, and multi-channel marketing to combat misinformation about cats transmitting COVID-19 while promoting pet adoption. The design employs a research-driven approach, utilizing qualitative interviews, surveys, and extensive desk research to understand and address widespread misconceptions about felines during the pandemic period. The campaign's visual identity features cheerful, bold illustrations created using Procreate software on an iPad Pro 12, implemented across various media formats including 48 x 64 cm posters on opaline paper, magazine advertisements, and social media assets optimized for Instagram's platform. A distinctive aspect of the project is its evolution from a traditional marketing campaign into a successful merchandise line, featuring products such as mugs, decorative plates, eco-bags, and t-shirts sold through a charity bazaar. The design's effectiveness in combining aesthetic appeal with social impact earned recognition from the A' Design Award in the Advertising, Marketing and Communication Design category, acknowledging its contribution to fostering a more informed and compassionate community while generating practical support for animal welfare initiatives. The project, launched in October 2021 in São Paulo, demonstrates how strategic communication design can effectively address social issues while creating tangible positive outcomes through sustainable product development and community engagement.
