Catena Coffee Table
Catena Coffee Table is an innovative modular furniture design that exemplifies versatile functionality through its unique L-shaped configuration, comprising four interconnected side tables. Created by Turkish designer Ayça Sevinç Tatlı, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning piece revolutionizes traditional coffee table design by incorporating a transformable structure that adapts to various spatial needs. The design features a distinctive composition where two large and two small side tables combine to form an L-shaped coffee table, with three of the units equipped with wheels for enhanced mobility. The table's aesthetic is characterized by a recurring geometric motif - a rectangle with circular edges - which appears both in the load-bearing elements and the overall form of each component. Manufactured entirely from wood, including flexible plywood for the curved corners, the piece demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship through its hand-manufactured construction process utilizing two different-sized molds for corner production. The dimensions of the assembled configuration measure 300mm in width, 1200mm in length, and varying heights of 380mm/300mm x 900mm x 345mm, making it particularly suitable for floor-level seating arrangements. A notable technical feature is the flanged bottom design of the wheeled short table, which provides structural support when nested within the larger units. This thoughtful engineering enables seamless transformation between individual side tables and the complete L-shaped assembly, offering practical versatility for contemporary living spaces while maintaining aesthetic cohesion through its unified design language.
