Caskets Made Of Horn

Caskets Made Of Horn

Horn caskets, also known as horned coffins, are a type of burial container made from the horns of various animals such as cattle, buffalo, and elk. These caskets have been used for centuries and were particularly popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were often considered a luxury item and were used to bury wealthy or influential individuals. The process of making a horn casket involves cutting and shaping the horns into panels that are then joined together to form the casket. The horns are typically polished to a high shine, giving the casket a unique and striking appearance. The interior of the casket is usually lined with silk or velvet to provide a comfortable resting place for the deceased. One of the benefits of using a horn casket is its durability. Horn is a strong and resilient material that can withstand the elements and protect the body from decay. Additionally, horn caskets are often considered more environmentally friendly than traditional wooden caskets, as they do not require the cutting down of trees. Despite their durability and unique appearance, horn caskets are not as commonly used today as they once were. This is due in part to the availability of less expensive and more practical burial containers. However, for those who value tradition and craftsmanship, a horn casket remains a beautiful and meaningful option.
