Casa PM Residential House

Casa PM Residential House is an exemplary residential architectural project located in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, that masterfully integrates natural elements with contemporary design principles. Completed in 2016 by architect Luis Fernando Garcia Ojeda and interior designer Andrea Marin, this single-level residence spans 500 square meters within a 1,300-square-meter lot characterized by abundant vegetation. The design philosophy centers on environmental harmony, with the structure thoughtfully divided into three distinct zones - garage, service area, and residential spaces - interconnected through an innovative network of ramps and steps traversing carefully curated gardens and architectural loose walls. The project's distinctive approach to preservation resulted in the protection or strategic relocation of existing trees, which serve multiple functions including natural shading, facilitating cooling breezes, and enabling passive ventilation throughout the property. The material palette demonstrates a sophisticated minimalism, incorporating concrete, steel, wood, and glass, chosen specifically for their low maintenance requirements and aesthetic contribution to the overall sense of tranquility. The design's biophilic elements are particularly noteworthy, with spaces that open completely to the exterior, effectively dissolving the boundary between indoor and outdoor areas. The northern orientation of open spaces optimizes natural illumination while maintaining comfortable interior temperatures through strategic cross-ventilation. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category represents a significant achievement in sustainable residential architecture, showcasing how contemporary design can respectfully coexist with and enhance natural environments. The house's meditation spaces and walking paths in the backyard, inspired by the local jungle landscape, further emphasize the project's commitment to creating a harmonious relationship between built and natural environments.
