Casa Ojala Highly Flexible House

Casa Ojala Highly Flexible House is an innovative architectural masterpiece that revolutionizes the concept of flexible living spaces through its transformative design capabilities. Created by Italian architect Beatrice Bonzanigo, this 27-square-meter circular dwelling represents a paradigm shift in residential architecture, featuring an ingenious manual mechanical system of ropes, pulleys, and cranks that enables more than 1,000 distinct interior configurations without altering its fundamental structure. The design, which received the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, consists of two wooden platforms: a 6-meter diameter upper deck serving as the main living space and an 8-meter diameter terrace floor, reaching a total height of 6 meters. Its radial steel structure, elegantly coated in wood, incorporates environmentally conscious features including a rainwater collection system, photovoltaic panel compatibility, and a compact septic tank. The house's remarkable versatility allows it to transform between two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchenette, living room, and an expansive outdoor platform, effectively dissolving traditional boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. The innovative use of WoodSkin and fabric for sliding walls, which can be rolled up on strategically placed posts, enables this extraordinary spatial flexibility. The design's sustainable approach is evident in its careful selection of locally-sourced materials and environmentally sensitive fabrics, while its minimal footprint and adaptability make it particularly suitable for luxury hospitality applications or private residential use in diverse landscapes.
