CARVED 2 Wall Clock

CARVED 2 Wall Clock

CARVED 2 Wall Clock is an innovative timepiece design that exemplifies the marriage of minimalist aesthetics with sophisticated craftsmanship, created by Japanese designer Naoki Terada. This wall clock features a distinctive design approach where numerals are precisely carved into the clock face with remarkably thin 2mm width indentations, positioned so close to the edge that their tops appear to be deliberately truncated. The clock's most notable characteristic is its three-dimensional visual effect achieved through the interplay of light and shadow within these carved indentations, creating a dynamic appearance that transforms based on ambient lighting conditions. Measuring 340mm in width and height, with a depth of 42mm, this timepiece weighs 750g and represents a significant evolution in clock face design. The manufacturing process employs precise CNC milling technology with a single bit type to achieve consistent carving depth, demonstrating exceptional attention to technical detail. The design process involved meticulous consideration of multiple elements, including character balance, aspect ratio, engraving depth, and dial proportions, as even minimal adjustments to these parameters significantly impact the overall aesthetic balance of the minimalist face. This sophisticated approach to timepiece design earned the CARVED 2 Wall Clock a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018, recognizing its innovative contribution to interior design aesthetics. The clock exemplifies a successful fusion of traditional timekeeping functionality with contemporary design sensibilities, where the smart font selection creates a sharp, clean impression that challenges conventional numerical representation while maintaining legibility.
