Carabinieri Headquarter Saluzzo Public Building
Carabinieri Headquarter Saluzzo Public Building is a significant architectural expansion project completed in 2016, designed to enhance and modernize an existing military facility in the historic town of Saluzzo, Italy. This contemporary architectural intervention, designed by Maurizio Bradaschia and Federica La Rocca, features a distinctive L-shaped addition that seamlessly integrates with the existing structure while introducing modern design elements. The two-story expansion primarily serves residential purposes, incorporating five double-occupancy bedrooms with en-suite facilities on the first floor and communal spaces including a dining hall, kitchen, and meeting room on the ground floor. The building's exterior is characterized by its innovative use of green-tinted copper cladding, creating a sophisticated camouflage effect that reflects its military function while respecting the surrounding historical context. The facade features a dynamic composition of vertical courses of varying widths and strategically misaligned window openings, presenting a contemporary architectural language that contrasts with yet complements the historical setting. The structure, built entirely of reinforced concrete, demonstrates exceptional attention to functional efficiency and structural integrity, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category for its innovative approach to institutional architecture and thoughtful integration of modern design elements within a historical context.
