Capital Of Ten Dynasties Information
Capital of Ten Dynasties Information is an innovative infographic design and visual communication project that artfully chronicles the rich historical legacy of Nanjing, China, through a sophisticated blend of traditional Chinese scroll painting aesthetics and modern information design principles. Created by designer Lu Jiadong in 2018, this comprehensive visual narrative measures 320 x 2030mm and presents a layered historical representation of ten significant dynasties that established their capitals in Nanjing: Dongwu, Eastern Jin, Southern Song, Southern Qi, Southern Liang, Southern Chen, Nan Tang, Ming Dynasty, Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and Republic of China. The design conceptualizes these historical periods as layers building upon one another, similar to a thousand-layer cake, creating a visually engaging metaphor for the city's architectural and cultural evolution. Through meticulous research conducted over two months of field studies, the designer transformed complex historical data into accessible visual symbols, enabling viewers to intuitively navigate through centuries of urban development. The work demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its execution, utilizing Adobe Illustrator to create precise illustrations that maintain both historical accuracy and contemporary appeal. This innovative approach to historical documentation earned the project a Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, recognizing its contribution to making complex historical information more accessible and engaging for modern audiences. The design successfully bridges the gap between traditional Chinese artistic expression and contemporary information design, offering a unique perspective on urban historical documentation while serving as an educational tool that celebrates Nanjing's cultural heritage.
