Cafe Bord De Mer Interior Design / Hotel Causal Dining
Cafe Bord de Mer Interior Design / Hotel Causal Dining is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies sophisticated coastal dining aesthetics, completed in 2012 in Hong Kong. This innovative spatial design masterfully integrates natural lighting and oceanfront views through strategic architectural elements, featuring 5.8-meter full-height clear glass glazing windows that maximize views of the South China Sea. The design concept draws profound inspiration from maritime traditions, particularly the romantic notion of Message in a Bottle, which is cleverly interpreted through signature columns designed to resemble rolled paper messages bound with metal strings. The space encompasses a 13.4 x 45.8-meter indoor dining area, incorporating interactive cooking stations and utilizing premium materials including apple wood veneer, stone, and custom furniture with feather down cushions. The interior's most distinctive feature is its innovative ceiling design, featuring massive wood blinds that effectively diffuse and scatter sunlight, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow throughout the day. The layout seamlessly integrates multiple functional zones, including an open-plan restaurant area and a relaxing lounge bar, all unified by a sophisticated coastal theme. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial planning that balances aesthetic beauty with practical functionality, creating an atmosphere that evokes both tranquility and refined elegance. The design successfully overcame significant challenges, including budget constraints and building preservation requirements, while maintaining high standards of material selection and architectural innovation.
