Borandá Visual Identity
Borandá Visual Identity is a comprehensive visual communication system designed to encourage public engagement with Atlantic Rainforest conservation units, created by designers Gabriela Namie and André Jun Ioneda. The design ingeniously combines organic, nature-inspired elements with contemporary urban aesthetics to bridge the gap between forest preservation and city dwellers. The visual identity system features a distinctive modular logo design with five variations based on trail lines, implemented across multiple color profiles including carefully selected institutional colors: orange, yellow, pink, purple, and blue, each precisely defined in RGB, CMYK, and Pantone specifications. The design's conceptual foundation draws from the Portuguese words bora (let's) and andar (walk), creating a meaningful linguistic connection that resonates with both indigenous heritage and contemporary culture. A defining characteristic of this identity system is its innovative use of a continuous line element that weaves through various brand components, creating a visual metaphor for forest trails while maintaining adaptability across different applications. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional technical excellence in its execution, featuring a versatile system that can be effectively implemented in both natural settings and urban environments. The project, completed in 2015, required extensive research including field visits to conservation units and workshops with stakeholders, resulting in a visual identity that successfully balances ecological awareness with modern design sensibilities, effectively serving its purpose of connecting urban populations with nature conservation efforts.
