Bernard Pfriem
Bernard Pfriem was an American artist of the 20th century known for his unique approach to pictorial illusionism in painting. Born in Westport, Connecticut in 1930, Pfriem was a highly talented student, who was first acknowledged for his artistic talent at an early age. He graduated from the Yale School of Art in 1952, and by the mid-1950s, he had achieved recognition for his distinctive style. After serving in the US Army in the mid-1950s, he established a studio in New York City, where he remained until his death in 2008. During his career, Pfriem was compared to Salvador Dali and Max Ernst in terms of the way his works presented a juxtaposed style of realism, abstraction, and Surrealism. Some of his most notable works include 'Metamorphosis' (1970), 'The Red Wheelbarrow' (1974), and 'The White Elephant' (1988).
