Beer Flood Porter Label is an award-winning packaging design that commemorates a historical event from 1814 London while serving as a distinctive visual identity for a craft porter beer. Created by designer Evgeny Dyakonov of CUBA Creative Branding Studio, this innovative label design masterfully balances historical storytelling with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. The design draws inspiration from the bicentennial anniversary of the London Beer Flood, a tragic industrial accident that occurred on October 17, 1814, incorporating elements from period newspapers, specifically The London Chronicle, alongside artistic renderings of beer vat fragments and essential brewing ingredients such as black malt and hops. Measuring 220 x 110 millimeters, the label employs offset printing on paper to achieve its distinctive appearance. The design successfully navigates the delicate balance between commemorating a historical tragedy and creating an appealing commercial product through the use of thoughtful irony and historical accuracy. The project, which took 60 working days to complete from concept to market launch, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its research and execution, incorporating authentic historical recipes and period-appropriate design elements. The label's effectiveness in triggering positive consumer responses while maintaining historical authenticity has been validated through market surveys, and its design excellence has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, acknowledging its contribution to innovative packaging design and cultural storytelling.
