BAAN CITTA Residential

BAAN CITTA Residential is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Buddhist philosophy with contemporary living spaces, created by Hong Kong-based designer Catherine Cheung. The 5000-square-foot residence, completed in 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand, draws its conceptual foundation from the Buddhist notion of Shambhala, interpreted as a pure land or spiritual paradise on Earth. The design's distinctive approach manifests through its unconventional use of color, departing from typical neutral modern residential schemes by incorporating vibrant hues against an earthy palette, creating a dynamic interplay between artificial and natural elements. The interior architecture features a sophisticated multi-level layout with varying platforms and staircases, effectively delineating different functional zones while maintaining an expansive, open atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling windows serve as transparent boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, facilitating a seamless integration with the natural environment and optimizing natural light penetration. The project, which garnered a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial planning through its 25m x 10m two-level configuration, complete with a 50-meter standard swimming pool. Rather than focusing solely on form and physical elements, the design prioritizes the creation of positive energy flow and serene ambiance, reflecting the designer's philosophy of balancing aesthetics with functionality. The project's success lies in its ability to translate the homeowners' desire for a pressure-free environment into a thoughtfully crafted retreat that harmonizes with nature, featuring unobstructed views and carefully considered transitions between spaces.
