87MM Ilsang Font Design
87MM Ilsang Font Design is a groundbreaking typographic innovation in Korean typography, representing a significant milestone in contemporary font design through its unique interpretation of numerical ratios and angular elements. This distinctive typeface, created in 2021-2022, introduces the first-ever oblique font variation in Korean typography, breaking away from traditional East Asian vertical writing conventions. The design philosophy incorporates sophisticated mathematical principles, utilizing an 8:7 ratio for letter spacing and employing precise 8-degree and 7-degree angles in stem and terminal elements to achieve harmonious handwriting characteristics in sideways writing. The font system comprises two primary variations - Regular and Oblique - encompassing an extensive character set of 2,782 Hangeul letters, 214 Latin alphabet characters, and 838 symbols, making it a comprehensive typographic solution for modern communication needs. The design's innovative approach challenges conventional Korean typography norms while maintaining legibility and functionality, particularly in its groundbreaking oblique variation that bridges Eastern and Western typographic traditions. This font design, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional technical excellence in typography through its meticulous attention to proportional relationships and cultural sensitivity, while successfully integrating daily-life values into its aesthetic expression.
