30s Cognac Glass
30s Cognac Glass is an innovative and artisanal drinking vessel specifically designed for the appreciation of cognac, crafted through the meticulous process of free-blown glassmaking. This distinctive design, created by Finnish glass artist Saara Korppi, represents a harmonious fusion of functionality and artistic expression, drawing inspiration from the fluid forms found in Finnish nature, particularly the element of water in its various states. The glass features a unique architectural structure with two inner-blown arches forming a specialized flattened base, allowing the vessel to rest securely on either side when placed on a surface. This sophisticated drinking vessel, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, exemplifies exceptional craftsmanship through its deliberately thin glass construction and thoughtfully considered ergonomics. Each piece is individually crafted, making every glass unique, with dimensions of 100mm in width and 105mm in height. The design's most notable characteristic is its ability to reflect light from multiple angles, enhancing the drinking experience while paying homage to the tradition of cognac aging. The conceptual foundation of the design celebrates the parallel between the aging process of fine cognac and human maturation, incorporating both practical functionality and symbolic meaning. The creation process, which required extensive research and technical expertise to achieve the precise angle and distance between the bottom arches, demonstrates the designer's commitment to perfecting both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the vessel. The glass's innovative design allows for optimal appreciation of the cognac's bouquet, with specific sections engineered to facilitate proper grip and aromatics assessment.
