2D Lantern Urban Fixture
2D Lantern Urban Fixture is an innovative urban lighting solution that represents a groundbreaking approach to public space illumination through its unique two-dimensional design aesthetic. Developed between 2013 and 2020 by Italian lighting designer Bianca Tresoldi, this revolutionary fixture manifests as a flat surface installation that appears to float like a drawing in the sky, challenging traditional three-dimensional lighting conventions. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, features a remarkably slim profile with dimensions ranging from 160mm to 400mm in width and a mere 20mm in depth, while maintaining a height of 1105mm. Constructed from 2mm cold galvanized steel with powder coating for corrosion resistance, the fixture incorporates advanced technical elements including an aluminum optical component for optimal LED heat dissipation, silicone lens technology for versatile optical configurations, and a prismatic glass covering that enhances visual comfort by minimizing glare. The fixture's innovative design allows it to seamlessly integrate into historic urban environments, becoming virtually invisible when viewed from certain angles while maintaining powerful illumination capabilities for areas up to 8 meters in height. This duality of presence and absence creates a unique architectural dialogue within urban spaces, contributing to the cultural narrative of city landscapes while respecting historical contexts. The design's technical sophistication is particularly noteworthy given its compact form factor, housing high-performance optical units within a minimal 160mm diameter, demonstrating exceptional engineering efficiency and design ingenuity.
