298 Nikuya Kitchen Japanese Dining Restaurant

298 Nikuya Kitchen Japanese Dining Restaurant is an innovative Japanese BBQ dining establishment that masterfully blends traditional Japanese culinary aesthetics with 1970s American diner influences, located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Designed by Chikara Sasaki and Aky.N, this 340-square-meter restaurant space represents a bold departure from conventional Japanese restaurant design aesthetics, challenging stereotypical approaches through its unique fusion of cultural elements. The interior design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, features distinctive architectural elements including black and white patterned tiles at the entrance, complemented by green patterned tiles in the main dining hall. The walls showcase a sophisticated combination of metro tiles and exposed concrete, enhanced by creative light bulb message displays that add character and visual interest. The space is further distinguished by statement mirror ball pendant lighting fixtures that create a dynamic atmosphere, while the thoughtfully curated selection of mixed-colored seating arrangements contributes to the restaurant's eclectic charm. The design successfully integrates industrial chic partitions with retro-inspired elements, creating a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal. The 2.8-meter ceiling height is strategically utilized despite structural challenges posed by existing beams and varying ceiling levels. The kitchen area, occupying approximately 48 square meters, is efficiently integrated into the overall layout. This innovative design approach, completed in 2015, demonstrates a successful reimagining of traditional Japanese dining spaces, creating an environment that honors culinary tradition while embracing contemporary design sensibilities.
