2182 Vessel Speculative Vase is an innovative ceramic drinkware design that reimagines the traditional wine glass through a contemplative and experiential approach. Created by Chinese designer Xiangzhi Zhao, this speculative vessel introduces a unique two-part structure divided by a removable stopper, challenging contemporary materialistic consumption patterns while elevating the ritual of wine appreciation. The design draws inspiration from historical drinking vessels, incorporating elements from four classical forms: the Patera, Kylix, Tazza cup, and champagne coupe. With dimensions of 50mm in width and depth, and 140mm in height, the vessel features a deliberately shallow upper section reminiscent of the 16th-century Italian Tazza cup, requiring mindful consumption and skilled handling. The vessel's distinctive design facilitates a dual-stage drinking experience: the wide upper opening promotes rapid aroma diffusion for enhanced olfactory engagement, while the narrow middle section moderates wine oxidation in the lower chamber, preserving the beverage's integrity. This thoughtful approach to wine consumption, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, demonstrates excellence in both functional innovation and cultural commentary. The design's ceramic construction and meticulous attention to volume control, allowing only three to four sips when the stopper is in place, creates a purposeful contradiction between differently sized vessels sold at identical prices, challenging conventional value perceptions in contemporary consumer culture.
