17 Mile Coffee Cafe is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of nautical aesthetics with contemplative spaces, created to offer an atmospheric retreat in Hunan, China. This 560-square-meter establishment, designed by Tao Huang and Zhihong Li, draws profound inspiration from the resilient cypress trees along California's 17-mile coastline, which have withstood oceanic forces for over 250 years. The space masterfully incorporates maritime elements, featuring artistic installations derived from traditional ship components such as sidelights and rudders, while utilizing a sophisticated material palette of stainless steel, cables, and leather to reinforce the nautical theme. The design's architectural character is anchored by robust red brick walls, reminiscent of classic Boston architecture, complemented by plain grey cement and wooden flooring that creates a warm, natural ambiance. The cafe's layout employs metal mesh partitions to delineate functional zones while maintaining visual continuity, with a minimalist black staircase leading to elevated spaces that offer contemplative views. The thoughtfully curated environment includes carefully positioned books illuminated by warm lighting, creating an intellectual sanctuary where visitors can enjoy coffee while engaging in quiet reflection.
