Zen Sushi Japanese Restaurant
Zen Sushi Japanese restaurant is an innovative culinary and architectural space that masterfully reimagines traditional Japanese dining aesthetics through contemporary design principles, earning recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design. The establishment's architectural concept draws profound inspiration from the iconic Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto, specifically interpreting its distinctive succession of torii gates through a modern lens. The 350-square-meter space is thoughtfully orchestrated as an architectural promenade, featuring a dynamic interplay of matt black and glossy red-orange elements that create a compelling spatial narrative. The design employs sophisticated material selections, including black marble walls, red lacquered PVC ceilings, and timber wall coverings, all carefully composed within a dark environment that emphasizes the restaurant's dramatic visual elements. The space accommodates 90 diners through various seating configurations, including a central kaiten sushi bar that seats 30 guests, with additional intimate table arrangements thoughtfully distributed throughout the venue. The restaurant's layout is characterized by its deliberate progression of spaces, where each directional change reveals new perspectives and dining areas, enhanced by the rhythmic repetition of vertical elements that guide visitors through the space. The design successfully addresses the challenge of creating an authentic Japanese atmosphere while incorporating contemporary elements, achieved through the abstraction of traditional architectural elements and the strategic use of materials and lighting, including a distinctive rice paper backlit wall that pays homage to traditional temple illumination while highlighting the sushi master's workspace.
