Zen Industry Zen is an innovative interior design project that masterfully blends contemporary industrial aesthetics with traditional Zen philosophy, creating a unique living space that challenges conventional design paradigms. This distinctive residential project, designed by Eric Tam, represents a sophisticated departure from traditional Chinese decorative patterns, instead focusing on the thoughtful interplay of materials and colors to achieve an authentic Zen sensibility while incorporating modern industrial elements. The design's centerpiece features a striking black iron staircase leading to an attic, positioned adjacent to a serene fishpond, creating a compelling visual and experiential contrast that embodies the project's dual nature. This intentional juxtaposition serves as a transitional space that encourages residents to shift from the busy outside world to a more contemplative state of mind. The project, which required over four months of careful planning and modifications, successfully addresses the complex challenge of harmonizing industrial elements with Zen principles, resulting in a warm, contemporary living environment that satisfies both practical and spiritual needs. The design's exceptional achievement in balancing these seemingly contradictory elements was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial design and material selection.
