Yunxi Characteristic Restaurant

Yunxi Characteristic Restaurant

Yunxi Characteristic Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of water-inspired elements with contemporary spatial design, located in Chongqing, China. Completed in October 2019, this 600-square-meter establishment represents a sophisticated fusion of functionality and artistic expression, designed by Shang Cai to serve both as a daily dining venue and an adaptable space for social gatherings. The design concept draws profound inspiration from Chongqing's geographical identity, particularly its two prominent rivers, translating various states of water - including rain, clouds, and fog - into architectural elements. The restaurant's interior employs advanced lighting techniques and intelligent control systems to create dynamic spatial experiences, featuring a 6-meter ceiling height and accommodating 150 table seats alongside two private rooms. The design methodology incorporates four key elements: multi-dimensional spatial hierarchy, stage lighting techniques against black backgrounds, water-themed architectural devices, and versatile space functionality. Notable design features include artificially intelligent-controlled cloud-like lighting fixtures that adjust their height to welcome guests, creating an immersive dining experience. This platinum A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining innovative lighting solutions, material interactions, and spatial planning to create a distinctive dining environment that captures the fluid, transparent, and dynamic qualities of water.
