Yizheng Comprehensive Gymnasium Sports Center

Yizheng Comprehensive Gymnasium Sports Center is a landmark public sports facility that exemplifies innovative architectural design and sophisticated lighting integration, situated on a 37,000-square-meter site in Jiangsu, China. Distinguished by its striking facade composed of thousands of carmine ceramic rods arranged in a methodical sequence, this architectural masterpiece embodies the concept of a city's gift box through its unique construction methodology and illumination design. The facility's exterior employs an original fixed ceramic panel construction technique, developed through extensive 1:1 scale experimentation, which successfully integrates complex functional requirements while creating a transparent curtain wall effect. The lighting design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, transforms the structure into a crystal-like illuminated presence at night, utilizing warm-temperature lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere while maintaining architectural sophistication. The interior spaces are thoughtfully designed to maximize natural light penetration through the ceramic pillars, establishing open, communicative environments that symbolize industrial progress and community engagement. The project's innovative approach to safety lighting incorporates brick lamps at pillar bases, fostering intuitive wayfinding through an instinctual interaction paradigm that eliminates unwanted glare while enhancing user experience. Completed in 2018, this multi-functional gymnasium serves both as a venue for significant sporting events and as a public exercise facility, representing a harmonious blend of aesthetic excellence, functional efficiency, and human-centric design principles.
