XUPIN Office

XUPIN Office is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of ecological zen principles with contemporary workspace design. Located in Kunshan, China, this 1,500-square-meter office space represents a thoughtful departure from conventional corporate environments through its distinctive approach to sustainable design and cultural elements. The project, designed by Jiang Guoxing, masterfully incorporates traditional Jiangnan Watertown aesthetics with modern functionality, utilizing reclaimed materials and natural elements throughout the space. The design philosophy prioritizes environmental consciousness by extensively employing repurposed materials, including old wooden boards as an alternative to conventional wall treatments, second-hand hollowed-out wooden windows for meeting room partitions, and elegant bamboo ceiling decorations instead of standard ceiling panels. The space's foundation features black floor tiles that create an illusion of water, paying homage to the regional architectural vernacular while establishing a contemplative atmosphere. The design earned recognition with a Gold A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to workplace design. The project's material palette, comprising black floor tiles, reclaimed wood, bamboo, and black metal tubing, demonstrates a commitment to sustainability while creating an environment that encourages mindfulness and productivity. The design process, completed between September and December 2016, involved significant challenges in sourcing and treating second-hand materials, requiring careful preservation and anticorrosive treatments to ensure longevity and functionality.
