XOR Creative Research Interior Design is a significant architectural renovation project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Taiwanese architecture with contemporary design principles. This transformative interior design endeavor, completed in 2019, focused on revitalizing a 1972 terraced house in Taichung city, demonstrating exceptional spatial innovation and cultural preservation. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, is distinguished by its sophisticated integration of historical elements with modern aesthetics. At its core, the 134-square-meter space features a striking spiral staircase constructed according to the golden ratio, serving as both a functional element and an artistic centerpiece. The design's innovative approach to material selection incorporates indigenous Taiwanese elements, including white marble from Hualien city and emerald marble from Taitung city, arranged in progressive herringbone patterns. The interior's thoughtful composition includes deep blue backdrops that enhance the spatial depth, while the preservation of authentic Taiwanese tile flooring in the upstairs workplace creates a meaningful dialogue between past and present. The project's distinctive features include a chamfered floor mirror that reflects natural light from the backyard, exposed masonry highlighting Japanese colonial influences, and a sophisticated combination of geometric mosaic tiles with wood parquet flooring. The renovation, led by designer Hsin-Ting Weng alongside team members Jen Chen and Meng-Hsun Li, successfully addresses contemporary spatial needs while maintaining cultural sensitivity, particularly evident in the open-concept meeting area and swatch library compartmentalized by folding doors.
