X-power Gym Fitness Space is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies rational minimalism and architectural sophistication in fitness facility design, completed in Kunming, China in 2019. This 520-square-meter facility represents a groundbreaking approach to gym design through its deliberate deconstruction and reinterpretation of the letter X throughout the space, manifesting in V-shaped broken lines, rectangular elements, and strategic lighting placement. The design philosophy centers on mathematical rationality, employing only three fundamental elements: rectangles, polylines, and linear light sources, creating an unprecedented aesthetic in fitness facility design. The space features a sophisticated interplay of natural and artificial lighting, with vertical modeling that manipulates light angles to enhance the mechanical and strength-oriented atmosphere. The design incorporates rough terrazzo columns, cement-textured rectangular blocks embedded in walls, and quadrilateral surfaces extending from the ceiling, all working in harmony to create a cohesive visual narrative. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its departure from conventional gym aesthetics, deliberately avoiding curved surfaces and arcs in favor of stark rationality. The lighting scheme particularly showcases technical sophistication, utilizing LED technology and hidden light sources to create dramatic shadows and emphasize the space's architectural elements, while the predominant gray palette reinforces the design's commitment to rational minimalism.
