Wuhan Diary Visual Diary
Wuhan Diary Visual Diary is an innovative visual communication project that emerged during the unprecedented global pandemic of 2020, offering a profound artistic interpretation of the social and emotional landscape in Wuhan, China. This groundbreaking work, created by designer Yu Chen in collaboration with Titouan Millet, masterfully combines traditional Chinese perspectives on nature with contemporary digital technologies to create a dynamic visual narrative. The project employs sophisticated programming techniques to transform terrain-based visual languages and public sentiment data into an evolving graphical representation, utilizing the metaphor of rolling mountains to symbolize the shifting social environment and emotional states during the quarantine period. Developed between January and April 2020, this visual diary incorporates multiple design elements including posters (420mm×594mm), augmented reality components, motion graphics, and interactive projections. The work's distinctive approach involves parameterizing collected data and public opinions, which are then integrated into a three-dimensional earth shape using UNITY, creating a compelling visual narrative that reflects the complex relationship between humanity and nature during this critical period. The project, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, stands as a significant contribution to contemporary visual communication, effectively documenting the collective experience of a city at the epicenter of a global crisis while exploring the deep-rooted connection between Chinese cultural identity and the concept of homeland.
