Wu Club

Wu Club is an innovative fusion restaurant and social venue that exemplifies contemporary interpretations of traditional Chaoshan cuisine through avant-garde spatial design. Located in Shantou, Guangdong, this 600-square-meter establishment represents a groundbreaking approach to hospitality design, seamlessly integrating multiple functional spaces including private dining rooms, a tea room, cigar bar, whisky bar, and audio-visual entertainment areas. The architectural concept challenges conventional design paradigms through its distinctive use of polygonal planes, slanting structures, and floating forms, creating a dramatic interplay between Western design principles and Oriental spatial philosophy. The interior environment is characterized by its sophisticated material palette, featuring foamed aluminium, metal netting, rock slabs, and carefully curated lighting systems that work in harmony to create an atmosphere of refined luxury. Completed in July 2020 under the creative direction of chief designer Peihe Xie, the space demonstrates exceptional innovation in its treatment of light as a tangible design element, producing mysterious and tranquil ambiences while evoking emotional responses through carefully orchestrated illumination. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully bridges the gap between traditional culinary culture and contemporary spatial design, offering visitors an immersive experience that transcends conventional restaurant environments. The design's theatrical quality is enhanced through its experimental approach to surface treatments, combining contrasting textures and temperatures through materials, while incorporating elements of humor, mystery, and dreamlike qualities throughout the space.
