This architectural approach to cutlery design, created by Seyyedeh Shadi Ghoreishi, exemplifies the intersection of functionality and artistic expression in kitchenware. The spoon's distinctive features include a carefully carved body that follows the natural grain patterns of the Jacaranda wood, complemented by a lower scooped edge on the left side that facilitates efficient serving. Measuring 220mm in length with an 80mm scoop width, the utensil's handle has been meticulously sculpted to conform to an adult female's right-handed grip, enabling fluid serving motions. The choice of Jacaranda wood, known for its subtle grain patterns and food-safe properties, demonstrates a commitment to both sustainability and practicality, as the design utilizes small wood offcuts that would typically be discarded. This sustainable approach to materials, combined with traditional hand-carving techniques, resulted in a piece that earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category. The design process, which spanned two weeks in Perth, Western Australia, involved extensive research into wood selection, tool optimization, and ergonomic considerations, culminating in a utensil that seamlessly integrates architectural principles with everyday functionality.
