Located in Owariasahi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, this distinguished medical center comprises three interconnected buildings - an orthopedic clinic, an internal medicine clinic, and a pharmacy - unified through a distinctive wooden sunoko design code that creates a cohesive visual identity. The project, completed in January 2023, represents a significant departure from conventional clinical architecture by emphasizing the warmth and therapeutic qualities of wood throughout its design. The complex spans a total area of 2356.55 square meters, with the orthopedic clinic occupying 489.54 square meters, the internal medicine clinic 272.79 square meters, and the pharmacy 91.90 square meters. The design's most notable feature is its innovative structural approach, where the exterior skin and openings are strategically positioned outside the shaft assembly, creating continuous and stepped windows that enhance transparency while maintaining structural integrity. The sunoko walls, functioning as a facade rattan, not only provide superior air circulation and durability but also contribute to the building's distinctive aesthetic character. This architectural achievement, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in healthcare facility design through its emphasis on natural light, spatial harmony, and patient comfort.
